DAY 1: WATERBERG PLATEAU You will meet your safari guide in the foyer of the Windhoek Country Club at 08h00. Embark on a beautiful journey through Namibia’s wide-open landscape to the Waterberg, stopping en route for a guided tour of the Olive Farm followed by lunch in these tranquil surrounds. Continue towards the Waterberg Plateau Park – renowned for its flamboyant red sandstone formations and lush green vegetation. Home to a large variety of game, plant types and over 240 bird species, the Waterberg is also steeped in history – it was here that the Herero people lost their greatest battle to the German colonial forces at the beginning of the century. Our exclusive campsite provides a shady refuge situated under a canopy of trees. Enjoy a late afternoon walk and sundowners on top of the Waterberg. DAY 2: OMBOROKO MOUNTAINS After an early morning walk on the Waterberg Plateau followed by a wholesome breakfast, continue to Okonjima – nestled in the unspoiled beauty of the Omboroko Mountains. This family-run lodge is known for its peaceful and friendly atmosphere, and comprises ten individually furnished rooms with en suite shower and toilet. Okonjima is home to the Africat Foundation – a non-profit organisation dedicated to the conservation and protection of Namibia’s threatened cats. With over 300 bird species – including most of the Namibian endemics – birdwatching from the Lodge’s hide is extraordinary. You may also enjoy various walking trails including a guided San (Bushman) trail, and excellent home cooked meals are served indoors or outside around a fire. DAY 3: ETOSHA Continue along country roads to our exclusive campsite at the private Fischer’s Pan Game Reserve – bordering the eastern perimetre of the world-renowned Etosha National Park, a few kilometres away from the Von Lindequist Gate. In addition to its prime and secluded location, our campsite is beautifully situated on the edge of a small vlei where a variety of game, including leopard, roam at will. Enjoy an afternoon game-drive in the Namutoni area, characterised by the historic Beau Gestean fort. DAY 4: ETOSHA Spend the day game-viewing in Etosha National Park – 22 270 square kilometres of countryside ranging from dense bush to barren plains. The Etosha Pan, meaning "Place of Dry Water", is a vast, dry shallow depression of shimmering mirages. Experience spectacular game-viewing along the southern edge of the Pan where numerous waterholes attract an abundance of mammal and bird species. DAY 5: ETOSHA Game-view in the Park on your way to Ongava – situated on the southwestern border of the Park, near the Andersson Gate. Enjoy dinner and an overnight stay. DAY 6: DAMARALAND After an early morning game-drive, continue to our private campsite in southern Damaraland – situated between the Ugab and the Huab rivers. Damaraland’s unique attractions include a wealth of rock paintings and engravings, fascinating geological formations, diverse wildlife, and variety of desert flora and fauna. Visit the San (Bushman) rock paintings and engravings at nearby Twyfelfontein – thought to be the work of hunter-gatherers who lived in the area thousands of years ago – and enjoy a late afternoon stroll amongst the boulders and kopjes. DAY 7: DAMARALAND Spend the day exploring Damaraland at the Etendeka concession – 45 000 hectares of rocky semi desert, home to black rhino, desert-adapted elephants, Hartmann’s mountain zebra, oryx, ostrich and several endemic bird species. Enjoy a late afternoon stroll and sundowners overlooking Damaraland’s magnificent rugged scenery. DAY 8: SWAKOPMUND Continue to the coast and Cape Cross where the Portuguese seafarer Diego Cao became the first European to set foot on Namibian soil in 1486. Cape Cross is home to more than 80 000 Cape Fur Seals, and extensive lichen fields feature along the coast. Hedged by the desert and the wild Atlantic, Swakopmund is Namibia’s premier seaside resort, resembling a Bavarian village with its numerous 19th century buildings. Swakopmund offers old world charm, a relaxed atmosphere and a host of activities. Your accommodation is at the four-star Swakopmund Hotel & Entertainment Centre, and dinner will be enjoyed at a local seafood restaurant. DAY 9: SWAKOPMUND Depart on a seal and dolphin cruise at 08h30, taking you through Walvis Bay harbour, fishing factories and Russian trawlers, and then on to Bird Island and Pelican Point. View a variety of birds such as pelicans, flamingos, and cormorants on the way back via the lagoon, and feed wild seals boarding the boat by hand. Fresh oysters, champagne and snacks are enjoyed at the seal colony where dolphins join the fun around the boat. Spend the afternoon at leisure enjoying a variety of optional activities such as quad biking, a scenic flight over the dunes and coast, and golf on one of the five registered desert golf courses in the world. DAY 10: SOSSUSVLEI Continue via the Kuiseb to Sossusvlei Mountain Lodge situated in the heart of the Namib Desert on the NamibRand Nature Reserve – one of the largest reserves in Africa with 180 000 hectares of pristine wilderness. NamibRand is renowned for its captivating beauty and diversity of landscape which changes from expansive gravel plains to undulating dune seas and rugged canyons. Spend one overnight at Sossusvlei Mountain Lodge in a luxurious air-conditioned desert villa. Experience the area’s diverse range of desert-adapted flora and fauna on guided nature walks and hiking trails, and explore the dunes by All Terrain Vehicles. At night, discover the magnificence of the desert sky from the Lodge’s sophisticated observatory. Day 11: NAMIB DESERT Depart early for an excursion to the awe-inspiring dunes at nearby Sossusvlei – the highest dunes in the world, many of which are in excess of 300m high. After lunch, continue to the Namib Naukluft Park. Our exclusive campsite is surrounded by the huge Naukluft Mountains, characterised by sheer cliffs, deeply incised river valleys and rolling hills, which are a sanctuary for Hartmann’s mountain zebra, oryx, springbok and kudu. |
DAY 12:
NAMIB NAUKLUFT
Set off by 4x4 as far as the plateau to explore one of the most pristine gorges in the Naukluft.
The rest of the journey is on foot as you hike through the gorge with its many quiver trees and
rock pools – large enough to cool off in. An optional late afternoon activity is horse riding at a
nearby guest farm.
DAY 13:
SAFARI TERMINATES
After breakfast, you will return to Windhoek in time for lunch at a local restaurant.
