I would use my old 30-30 before I'd use that caliber. OP. The BTHP projectile in that ammo is designed for match use, as compared to hunting. Good to hear that. Will try this again in the summer, but since I just got some data related to this thread, I thought I'd post it. Have never chroned the load from a short barrel AR. Easily sub MOA with groups often getting sub 1/2 MOA. Weird to hear since my AR with the RRA 20" Bull with 1 in 9 holds a 1" group all day with the 75gr Hornady Match but my 16" RRA 1 in 8 likes the 55gr. You will potentially lose a lot of meat with bullet fragmentation.

Will post pics later! your 12 twist should stabalize up to 63-64 grain bullets.
I killed 3 pigs with them last weekend, worked just fine.

Firearm Discussion and Resources from AR-15, AK-47, Handguns and more! Not sure if BVAC uses the same bullet that Hornady uses. I should have added that I could not get the 75 gr Hornady AMAXs to work consistently (After 400 rounds changing everything around I gave up), nor the 80 gr AMAX (100 rnds), nor the 80 gr VLD (25 rnds) (throat too short, could only try jammed 10 or jumped 30 and neither grouped well) or the 77 SMKs (100 rnds). I was off topic there with my post because I'm after coyotes not deer.
Thank you for your input! Powered by UBB.threads™ PHP Forum Software 7.7.3. The load is highly accurate; but I have not shot a deer yet this season, so no results. I have had a hard time getting it to shoot well with anything. Guess my 1 in 9 twist isn't ideal for them or something. The 5th one I knew I made a bad shot and the doe ran 40 yards and stopped and I shot her again and she dropped right now.
thank's my problem , is it's all i can find around here. I tried the superformance with dismal results, with 2-3 inch groups being the norm! HBAR. And supper accurate. I really like the 5.56 Hornady Superformance 75 gr BTHP.
And there is a difference of if they work on game or not.
He was standing broadside at about 75 yards and I double lunged him. I recently purchased a Remington AR 15 with the 18 inch barrel in .223. I'd use the 5.56 version. I use 24 grains of reloader 15. I have a few cases of these- it is hot ammo, designed for rifle length gas systems.
And supper accurate.
As is the TBBC... too tough is in the eye of the beholder though. R. rost495.
I've shot exclusively 55 gr.

Campfire Oracle . I'm not a huge hunter, but I was always under the impression that .223 was too small of a caliber to make a reliable clean kill. I started recently shooting the Steel Match that KC mentioned through my Sig 556 and it performs awesome, have yet to shoot something with it but, don't think it will be any different from teh normal 75gr BTHP. I used the Hornady 75-gr under varget in my Windham VEX-SS 20 in 1:8 to try F-Class at 600 yds this summer. YMMV. I had keyholes on an m4 zero target with a primary arms micro red dot. The 55 soft points ain't bad either. The pig went down and stayed down with one shot. Buy, Sell, and Trade your Firearms and Gear. IMO the best 75gr 22cal bullet for hunting deer or perhaps any 22cal bullet for deer is the Swift Sirocco.
The bullet exited so was not recovered. I shot again and hit in the front shoulder. Evidently the deer were dead and the toughness of the bullet left some leeway if big bones were hit. I think Stick and Steely have used them more than a bit too and similar results! Check it out if you haven't already. It is stainless with some kind of black finish that looks like it is in the bore also. The only problem hunting deer with this small of a caliber is there was almost no blood trail. I'm using the Steel Match but it's the same projectile as far as I'm aware.
Since I was the only one who shot a hog that night, I decided to share it with my friends. My main concern would be lack of a blood trail. My goal is to terminate a lot of coyotes this winter.
I have a 16" middy Voodoo barrel on my AR with a 1:7 twist.
Try a 65 sierra BT GK with about 26.5 of vv540 cci 450.
The 77 SMKs showed promise, but considering price differential it was clear that the 75 gr would win the day.
bit on the frangible side IMHO. Member.
I learn alot about ballistics and reloading in the process. 223 with correct bullets and shot placement, and the ability to pass up bad shots, is as deadly as any other round on deer, even big deer.
P. peabody OP. Exit wound was tennis ball size, deer was 139 pounds!
my Remington 5r loves them, its 1/9 twist alsO It hates the federal tsx, which i use in my ar!
It was about 200 pounds.
I've had great results on hogs and coyote as well as punching paper. This was the test of the new VEX-SS rifle with the old rifles load as a starting point (upper corner, left corner). The deer ran another 100 yards and stopped.
223 Rem 75 gr BTHP Match™ Item #8026 | 20/Box . The published BC worked for me all the way out to 800 yards. The pig went down and stayed down with one shot.
I shot again hitting it in the gut.
busted a eight pointer yesterday evening at 145 yards, left a huge blood trail for thirty yards where he was piled up! 4 of the 5 deer have either dropped or walked less then 20 yards and died.
Hornady 75gr is absolutely effective on 150-200lb deer under 200yds; but it will spoil a lot of meat and you won’t be doing any Texas heart shots. Also a 90 grain would be better suited for deer or coyote? My daughter used the BVAC 75 gr BTHP's on her first deer. Copyright © 2000-2020 24hourcampfire.com, Inc. All Rights Reserved.

I did get some better groups though with them out of my S&W M&P 15T @ 100 yds though.
Will be doing more research for next year. I've actually had better luck with the Hornady 75gr BTHP than any brand of the 77 gr BTHP's.
It is actually not recommended by many experts who know more about this round than I do.
Very accurate round.
Also a 90 grain would be better suited for deer or coyote? Hitting 8" steel at 650yd was repeatable to the point of almost being boring (unless there was wind). My rifle loves them, been thinking about using them on a few hogs and maybe a deer or two! Member . IE Sierra Matchkings flat work. Unless you got an older batch in the old style Hornady boxes with metal gusseted corners, which have two or three different base/ogive measurements in the 6-7 boxes I have put aside for plinking fodder, the new 75's are excellent at range. … Alaska. Losing an animal sucks.
My question to you AR 15 fellas is, why wouldn't you shoot the 90 grain Sierra bullets since they have a BC of .500 which is better for longer range?
It was a spine shot just behind the head and it just blew out the spine and part of the head and dropped him at 85 long paces.
I believe DSS uses the brass case version also. Though the old 64 grain power point really has never been a bad fall back to or the 63 grain sierra semi point if you reload. Might buy afew preloaded boxes so I can benchmark my reloads by. Thanks for the help guys.
They do not shoot as well as the Sierra 77 grainers out of my rifle (3/8" or less) but they are below 5/8". My Black Hole Weaponry barrels do NOT like these bullets (could BARELY get sub MOA groups @ 100 yds). Have had fairly good results from PMC Stuff over the years.
