Its hand-crank slides out of the way under the desktop when not in use. After months of testing 20+ standing desks, the results are in! While it was a toss up for me on what to put number one, the electronics failure edged out stability because of one reason.

The smaller and cheaper of the two is priced at $229 whereas the bigger and more expensive model costs $279. This is something that should never happen. This desk is quite stable even at full extension.

IKEA SKARSTA desk is one of the many products that you might have stumbled upon in your search for a new desk. We’re not sure how durable the plastic pop-in connectors that connect the top to the frame will be over time, but for now they feel solid. Gonna motorize the crap out of mine. Unfortunately, for the IKEA Bekant it only got worse the higher you adjusted the desk. The crank handle slides in under the table top when not in use for a clean, uncluttered look. The rating is expressed as a percentage, but don’t automatically assign a corresponding letter grade based on that percent.

The IKEA Skarsta’s mechanical moving parts make a fair amount of sound as you adjust the height, and there’s a pretty loud click as you lock the handle into its under-desk clip.
All of the connections between the top and the different frame parts fit together very securely. thanks, I should add. You can easily adjust the height of the desk between 70 and 120 cm by just cranking the handle and get the best position for both sitting and standing.
