HABITAT | Open arid country. |
HABITS | They can be seen singly or in groups of about 5 to 8 individuals. They have a life-span of about 13 years and weigh up to 11 Kg. |
DIET | Black-backed Jackals prey on small animals like rodents,
mammals, birds, insects, reptiles and wild fruits. They congregate in large numbers at the kills of Lion or other predator, where they will try to steal a morsel or feed on the remains after the predators left. |
BREEDING | The gestation period is about 60 days, and 5 to 9 young are born. |
