Rocktail Beach Camp is Located in the iSimangaliso Wetland Park and Maputaland Coastal Forest Reserve in northern KwaZulu-Natal. Midway between Kosi Bay to the north and Sodwana Bay to the south.Accommodation at Rocktail Beach Camp consists of 17 canvas tented rooms consisting of 5 x twin-bedded rooms each with two three quarter beds, 4 x double-bedded rooms each with one king-size bed, 7 x family rooms each with 1 x king-size bed in the main bedroom and 2 x three quarter beds in the second bedroom. Each family room consists of 2 bedrooms, sharing the same bathroom, common area and entrance. Rocktail Beach camp accommodates 34 guests plus 14 children, subject to concession numbers and/or concession availability. Room details: Canvas tented rooms on a raised deck, with sandy pathways (a small stretch of elevated wooden walkways at the rooms), En-suite facilities with an open feel indoor shower, electronic safe, tea & coffee station and water kettle. No air-conditioning, however, ceiling fan provided in all rooms. Liquid soap, body lotion, shampoo & conditioner, tissue dispenser, washing powder, umbrella, room spray and a mosquito coil are supplied in each tent. During winter months hot water bottles and extra blankets are provided. Rocktail Beacg Camp Description Dining room, bar and lounge with a large wraparound veranda. An iPod is available in the camp’s main area for guests’ enjoyment. Pool in main area. Small curio shop. Children's playroom with games, etc. Shade shelters on the beach. In-room massage treatments (at an additional cost). Dive centre (courses will be conducted in Rocktail Beach Camp’s pool in the main area). During winter months gas heaters are stationed in the main area and knee blankets are provided during dinner. Game Viewing As the camp is situated within a coastal forest reserve, this is not a traditional terrestrial game viewing area, but birding is excellent while red duiker and reedbuck are found. Dolphins can be seen offshore and reef diving is outstanding. October to March sees loggerhead and leatherback turtles come ashore at night to lay their eggs. June to October produces wonderful sightings of humpback whales during their annual migration. Activities Included For All Guests 40 kilometre beach (approximately 15 – 20 minutes walk away). Bird watching. Surf/rock fishing (no tackle provided). Fishing licenses/permits are required for both conventional fishing and fly-fishing These are not sold in camp and must be obtained, prior to arrival and in person, from the nearest Post Office. Note that the offices of Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife National Parks no longer sell these. Swimming (at own risk as there are no life guards). Boogie boarding. Dune boarding (for children only – 5 years and older). Activities Included In FB Rate Basis Swimming and snorkelling at Lala Nek. Excursions to Lake Sibaya. Guided beach and forest nature walks. Nature drives (lined ponchos and knee blankets are provided on the vehicles). Activities At Additional Cost To All Guests Turtle drives must be booked and paid for in advance, with a maximum of one turtle drive per guest that may be booked in advance. There is a limit of ten seats per drive and Rocktail Beach Camp will sell any of the open seats direct in camp to guests wishing to experience this activity for a second time. Should any guest who has pre-booked decide for whatsoever reason not to participate in their pre-booked turtle drive, no refund will be possible. Scuba diving (Scuba divers must bring dive cards and/or log books. NO CARD – NO DIVE). Diving is subject to tide tide times & weather permitting, however, not available on the 01 January. To avoid Decompression Sickness (DCS) we generally advise guests to wait 24 hours after a dive before flying. Should guests not be flying, then there is no concern. PADI Scuba Diving Courses (A range of courses offered from beginners to more advanced. Please see course information sheet) Gugulesizwe Activities (Gugulesizwe is a joint venture between Wilderness Safaris and the community). Transfers to Gugulesizwe are included on the FB4 rate, while extra activities once there include a village visit (on request and recommended only Mondays to Fridays) and quad biking – all of which to be priced, booked and paid for at the camp. Quad biking is not available on 01 January. Game drive and brunch at Tembe Elephant Park (booked and paid for at the camp). |
