to our African Wildlife Gallery and our collection of Wildlife Pictures.
The Pictures of African Lions featured on this site were all taken by
Ernest Lopes, on the Greater Kruger National Park and the
Game
Reserves
around it, as well as the Kalahari Gemsbok National Park,
in South Africa.
Lions are the most sociable of the African Cats, living in prides which
consist of one or two males, a few females and several young of different
ages.
Lion Prides occupy territories which the dominant males defend against
other prides and nomadic males.
The dominant males constantly patrol their territory advertising their
presence by constant roaring and scent marking.
Young lion males on reaching sexual maturity (about three years of age)
are forced out of the pride by the dominant males.
